Brods failed to take advantage of their early dominance in this game at Woodhead and with Bridlington finishing the stronger it was the visitors who deserved to take the spoils in this keenly contested fixture.
Brods took the early initiative to dominate possession and territory however they were unable to break down a well organised Bridlington defence and it was the visitors who opened the scoring just before half time. After some frantic efforts in attack, with some equally good defence, the visitors were awarded a penalty and Brid opted to scrum. The ball was moved right and a try looked inevitable however the ball was dropped by the Brid centre and the chance was gone. Following a further scrum Brid won the ball and this time made no mistake as the ball was moved to the left to beat the cover defence.
Brods opened the second half with a great run up the right wing by Adam Sutcliffe. As he broke clear his well placed kick ahead travelled deep into Brid territory and was chased down by Brods fullback, Joe Underwood. 5-7.
Bridlington's response was swift, a kick downfield wasn't cleared and from the resulting scrum they regained possession. Brid's right winger showed great pace and ran a good line to score 5-12. The gaming was warming up and with a fine line kick from a penalty to Bridlington's right hand corner the Brods pack set themselves for a drive to the line. The seasiders defended well however Brods maintained the pressure and, at the second attempt, scored to make it 10-12.
The visitors kicking game was good and they worked their way into Brods territory and made good use of their territorial win with a deft kick behind the Brods defence, finished with a well taken pick up and a further score in the corner.10-17.
As the game moved into the final quarter Bridlington extended their lead with two penalty goals and in the final minute score a further try and conversion for a final score 10-30
